– Calthorpe Orchard –

Calthorpe Orchard is a premier Tasmanian fruit orchard and operates as a division of Tasfruits. Located in Sidmouth in the Tamar Valley, the orchard was purchased by AAAW Group in 2017 and is home to high quality fruit previously produced under the Top Qual brand.

Our orchard encompasses a total land area of 104.07 hectares and features over 94 hectares of established cherry, apple and pear trees. This includes a premium production of Royal Gala, Red Delicious, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady™, and Sundowner ™ apples; Buerre Bosc pears and cherries, and new plantings of Striped Fuji and Jazz™ apples, which were introduced in 2003.

To meet the increasing demand for premium cherries by the Chinese consumer, we have also established new cherry tree plantings and aim to produce additional supplies of pome fruit.

We adapt to the different growing seasons by exploring new opportunities in crop diversification and succession planting — an approach that allows our full-time workers and equipment to be utilised during each harvest. Supporting our expansion strategy is the region's temperate climate, which ensures that the ongoing production of tree fruit crops is viable all-year.

– FOR GROWTH –

We adapt to the different growing seasons by exploring new opportunities in crop diversification and succession planting — an approach that allows our full-time workers and equipment to be utilised during each harvest. Supporting our expansion strategy is the region's temperate climate, which ensures that the ongoing production of tree fruit crops is viable all-year.

Our ability to grow a variety of exceptional produce is further enhanced by our expert planting and harvesting techniques. Other natural hazards that impact orchard development are also adapted within the physical infrastructure of the farming operations including efficient benchmarking in new irrigation technologies, and sustainable land and water management improvements.

For effective quality control, we have a large-scale Controlled Atmosphere (CA) cool store and packing facility; and our operation carries regulated Quality Assurance certification including Woolworths Quality Assurance (WQA).

Contributing over $1.6 million to Tamar Valley’s economy during a single harvest season, we source our fruit pickers through Youth Futures, a non-profit organisation, which assists young people. Our management team also has extensive experience in fruit tree nursery operations and practice Tasfruits’ high standards of corporate governance and ecological management.
